The Koenisha Story |
|
|
The NameKoenisha Publications began publishing books in 2000, although the name Koenisha had existed for almost ten years prior, just waiting to be applied to the appropriate monumental project. A combination of the first five letters of Sharolett Koenig's last name and the first three letters of her first name, Koenisha was the mailing label code used by a Christian curriculum company to ID her. And when it came time to put a name to the ground-breaking ideas and dreams that eventually became the innovative publishing company, Koenisha (pronounced Koe·nee·shä) was perfect. The ReasonIn 1993, Sharolett Koenig began teaching a class at her church to share with others what she had learned about writing. With several articles published and the first two novels in her young adult mystery series written, the Koenisha Publications founder soon had several proficient authors following her lead. But the depressed book publishing industry, struggling to overcome the technological growing pains of the e-book era, made it obvious that so many excellent writers would never have the chance to see their words in print. Starting a publishing company was a natural extension of the writing class, which still meets every other Sunday to encourage and support the original members, as well as new members. The CompanyBeginning with the first novel in the Tim MacCulfsky young adult mystery series, Plight of the Children, Koenisha Publications launched into the new millennium. The publishing company immediately broke with tradition by setting out to produce "high-end" trade paperbacks with the quality look and feel of hardcover books that people would want to keep and display. Thus the Jacketed SoftCover™ concept was born. Producing "hand bound" books on a small scale at first, the company grew slowly releasing two titles in 2000, five titles in 2001, and twelve titles in 2002. Having no particular training or experience in publishing, Sharolett Koenig, president of Koenisha Publications, adopted a "Jackie Chan" business philosophy of "do-it-yourself when everyone else says it can't be done." And as it became economically feasible, she gradually automated the process and brought all the equipment in-house that she needed to print and bind the books herself. Having started the company in a weak economy has made Koenisha Publications financially sound. A "tightly-held" company, Koenisha Publications is known for its integrity and fairness to authors. The BooksThe volunteer staff, made up of Christians, does not market to the Christian readership only. Koenisha Publications strives to meet the needs of a wide range of readers. Running the gamut from autobiographies to cookbooks, the company specializes in mysteries. However the titles include a poetry anthology, a journal of mission travels, a series of nonfiction self-help chapter books for children, spy thrillers and romances. The AuthorsKoenisha Publications has been richly blessed with many excellent authors who prove that the writing discipline encompasses all walks of life. They are homeschooling mothers, as well as public school teachers and librarians. They are young and old, male and female, black and white, native American and foreign born. They include a paraplegic, a blind person, and a person subject to seizures. They have survived the diverse experiences they write about. They hail from nine different states across the U.S. Their backgrounds include hobbies, interests and occupations, such as, bonsai enthusiast, artists, former bartenders, art gallery owner, restaurant owner, music store owner, lawyer, builder, TV cameraman, ordained minister, factory workers, housewives, editors, director of children's services, and financier. The VisionEvery year the staff of Koenisha Publications seeks to improve the quality of the books we publish by upgrading equipment and expanding resources. The name Koenisha is synonymous with new ideas in book publishing. We hope you will continue to find that our titles are books you can sink your mind into as we prayerfully seek God's guidance and endeavor to do His will in the years ahead. |
