INK ON HER
NOSE

Whodunit

Blurb:
"Small
press" publisher, Charlie Rothbury, decides to use her husband's Lloyds of
London life insurance payoff to fund a million-dollar advance on royalties
competition, a publicity ploy she believes will be a good investment.
She employs her two
sons to help her film the fun and games for a reality TV show, Who Wants to
be a Best-Selling Author? She invites her five top selling authors to spend
a weekend at her remote wooded estate where they must compete for the
million-dollar prize.
It's a dark and stormy night when the authors and their
guests arrive, but a sudden cold snap downs the power and telephone lines, and
one author turns up dead. Is one of the other authors trying to improve the
odds? Is someone settling an old score? Or is someone cleaning the ranks of
complainers and wimp-outs during the ensuing Michigan "white-out"
snowstorm?
A classic locked-room whodunit, Ink On Her Nose
(reminiscent of the Neil Simon movie, Murder by Death), offers a humorous
glimpse into the book publishing business. Eighty-two percent of the American
population say they want to write a book. Ink On Her Nose just might
change a few minds.
Excerpt:
Michael carefully poured a thin liquid over the
meat, and then flicked the lighter. The lighter flared like a giant torch and
the white rum was instantly consumed by flames that reached to the mounted trout
on the wall. Michael grabbed the metal lid from Keith and, with a distressed
look on his face, smothered the conflagration.
"The fish is burning," Thelma said calmly.
"It's duck," Keith corrected her.
"No, look," Clayborne said pointing at the mounted
trout. "The fish is burning."
"I have a mounted fish at home that moves around and
makes lewd remarks when I press a button," Merle said. "But I've never
seen one that shoots fire out its mouth."
Keith knocked the large mounted fish from the wall and worked
with it on the floor, smothering the flames with a dishtowel. Meanwhile, Michael
began slicing the ballotine of duck without saying a word. Moments later, Keith
stood up and carefully re-hung the trout on the wall with its singed fin
bandaged in the dishtowel. He brushed himself off, straightened his topcoat, and
began serving the main course.
"Can I have a glass of that stuff you poured over the
duck?" Merle asked when Keith served him his plate.
